SoundTube Adds to Possibilities in Colorado
Goodwill Industries International is best known for its global chain of thrift stores.
Unknown to most of the shoppers are the training efforts provided through the revenue
generated in those stores. One such training facility is located at the Possibilities Center
in Colorado Springs, CO. In the center, developmentally disabled individuals are taught
the basics of banking, shopping, cooking, household management and more. The hands-
on approach provides a stress-free, yet realistic way to learn how to function in everyday
society. The 14,000 square foot center is set up with a “Town Square” theme that
provides access to a general store, fitness center, “city hall”, credit union, art studio,
health center and fitness center.
System integrator CEAVCO provided the AV installation at Possibilities and placed
SoundTube speakers throughout the facility. In the Town Square, 20 RS600i-BK pendant
speakers provide music and announcements to staff and trainees. 51 CM62-EZ-II in-
ceiling speakers were installed in the simulated businesses and in the facility’s
gymnasium, 6 HP129a-WH high-power pendant speakers were installed.
The Possibilities Center has 9 zones for paging and audio. In addition to the SoundTube
speakers, CEAVCO utilized a Biamp AudiaFlex with network paging system, Crown
amplifiers, a Shure SLX wireless combination system and Tascam CD/iPod and AM/FM
source components. In addition to the audio setup, CEAVCO installed video systems in
the apartment, classrooms, conference rooms and lobby.
Ken Toal, CEAVCO Account Executive, says “SoundTubes always come through with
unique products that provide performance as well as value to the end user. CEAVCO’s
latest project with SoundTube was no exception. We have received compliments about
the system’s ease of use, quality, and unobtrusive appearance.”
Patricia Skolout, Possibilities Program Activity Lead, says the AV video system installed
by CEAVCO greatly enhances the experience for participants. “At Possibilities, we serve
adults with intellectual and physical challenges, helping them build skills that enrich their
lives and allow for greater independence,” Skolout says. “The CEAVCO set up in our
Town Square Apartment and Learning Labs, with multiple TV monitors and easy-to-use
wall panel controls, allows our participants to independently set up their own videos and
control all aspects of the operation. It has been a wonderful resource which greatly
enhances our life skills program.”
Goodwill Industries’ mission statement is “to enhance the dignity and quality of life of
individuals and families by strenghtening communities, eliminating barriers to
opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the
power of work.” With the Possibilities centers, this mission becomes closer to reality.
